Usually the bake element cracks, or the igniter glows without lighting the gas, or the temperature sensor drifts until every casserole comes out pale. Control boards fail too. So do hinges and latches, and then heat leaks out into your kitchen. When we come out, we ask what you baked last and how it looked. Then we test the element, sensor, igniter and controls, and read out any stored fault codes. Before we replace anything, we tell you which part failed and why, in plain words. The oven symptoms we hear most

Safe things to check first
Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.
- 1Make sure the oven isn't stuck in a delayed start, in Sabbath mode, or in a self-clean cycle that never released the door lock.
- 2With the oven off and cool, look at the bake element for a visible crack, a blister, or a bright burn spot.
- 3On an electric oven, check the breaker. A half-tripped double breaker often kills bake while the display stays lit.
- 4Confirm the gas is on and that other burners light, which tells us whether it's the whole supply or just the oven.

Why does my oven take forever to preheat?
A weakening element or a lazy gas igniter will both stretch preheat time, and so will heat loss through a flattened door gasket. We measure how fast the cavity climbs, then compare that to what the sensor reports, and the slow link shows itself.
Is a cracked bake element dangerous?
Treat it as a stop-using situation. A cracked element can arc, spark, or trip the breaker. Shut the oven off at the breaker and let it cool. Replacing an element is common work and usually straightforward, once we confirm the wiring is sound.
Can you fix a wall oven built into cabinets?
Yes. Built-ins have to come out carefully so trim and cabinet faces don't get marred, and plenty of Norristown split-levels have tight surrounds. We support the weight properly, disconnect power, and slide the unit out only as far as the repair needs.
Why did the self-clean cycle break my oven?
Self-clean drives cavity temperatures very high, and that heat leans hard on the thermal fuse, the door lock motor and the control board. If your oven died right after a cleaning cycle, say so when you call us. That one detail points us at the likely part.
My gas oven smells but the burner works. What's that?
A faint smell the first time you use it after cleaning is usually residue burning off. A gas odor that sticks around is a different matter. Shut the gas off, open windows, leave the house if it's strong, and call the utility first. Then reach us for the repair.
Should I repair an older oven or replace it?
Depends on which part failed. Elements, igniters, sensors, hinges and thermostats are practical fixes on an older unit. If a control board and several other parts have gone on a badly rusted cavity, we'll say so plainly and let you decide.
